World War I begins		World War I ends. American expatriate movement to Paris begins; the movement is called the Lost Generation, a phrase coined by Gertrude Stein.		The Paris Peace Conference takes place in 1919 to negotiate post war peace treaties. The Treaty of Versailles is signed on June 28, 1919. The League of Nations was formed in Part I of the Treatise. President Woodrow Wilson is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the League of Nations.
	Jake is wounded in the war and his injury leaves him impotent.		Jake Barnes and Robert Cohn move to Paris.		Brett returns from San Sebastian, where she had a secret affair with Robert Cohn, who fell in love with her. Mike, Brett's fiancé, arrives in Paris. Jake's friend Bill Gorton arrives in Paris; they plan a trip to Spain Jake, Bill, and Cohn go to Pamplona, where they will meet Brett and Mike.
