Welcome to Thirteen Ed Online, public television's award-winning Web service for teachers!
The Internet is changing the way teachers teach and students learn. Thirteen Ed Online is helping shape the future of education in the digital age.
A recent Educational Testing Service (ETS)
study shows that helping teachers learn how to integrate technology, especially the Internet, into the curriculum is a critical factor in the successful implementation of
technology applications in schools. Furthermore, ETS research concludes
that most teachers have not had the education or training to use
technology effectively in their teaching, revealing that only 15% of U.S. teachers
reported having at least nine hours of training in education technology.
Those teachers who have received training feel that one-time workshops are not enough. More opportunities to learn over time are needed.
Responding to the national need for sustained teacher training,
Thirteen/WNET New York, PBS's flagship station, developed Thirteen Ed Online. This free
service features everything from standards-based lesson plans and classroom
activities to a multimedia primer, online mentors, and reviews of curriculum-based Web sites.
