Picture the scene at a popular spectator sports venue in your community: hundreds or even thousands of families enjoying the exhilaration of an afternoon's entertainment. Now imagine it's CYBERCHASE Day, and your station is the host. Your brand and tune-in information are displayed prominently in front of the captive audience; station staff are handing out materials at the gate or at a table on the concourse; and the game announcer is promoting your station over the PA system. CYBERCHASE stars Harry, Bianca, or Digit may even be on hand to entertain and give autographs at your station's table. This toolkit is your turnkey opportunity to reach out to new audiences through CYBERCHASE, while enhancing existing partnerships with local sports organizations or making new ones.
CYBERCHASE + SPORTS = PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR STATION!
When's the last time you looked at a baseball diamond -- and saw a geometric pattern? Or checked out a sports score -- and considered the math inherent to the game? Now's the time! Through CYBERCHASE's Math & Sports initiative (PDF), children will learn that math offers tools to sports success that they can try for themselves. CYBERCHASE Math & Sports provides a natural connection between your programming and sports, as well as an opportunity to attract new viewers to your station. For Thirteen/WNET, local viewership jumped to six times higher than before our event held with the New York Mets. Click here for a summary of that event (PDF) prepared for one of the series' sponsors.
How can you get started? This toolkit has been developed to help you plan, brand, and execute your own CYBERCHASE Day with a sports partner. Enjoy!

About CYBERCHASE
The Emmy Award-winning series CYBERCHASE is the only mathematics series for children on American television. Designed for kids ages 8 to 12 and packed with mystery, humor, and action, each episode delivers positive messages about math by teaching concepts in a fun way that kids can understand.
In the world of CYBERCHASE, the dastardly villain Hacker is on a mad mission to take over cyberspace with the help of his blundering henchbots, Buzz and Delete. But our heroes, Inez, Jackie, and Matt, are three curious kids determined to stop him with the help of their cyberpal, Digit. Their weapon: brain power.
Each episode takes our heroes on a thrilling adventure driven by a different math concept. From tackling time in ancient Egyptian tombs to cracking codes in creepy caves, kids learn that math is everywhere and fun to use! And even more important for grown-ups, each episode is centered on a core math standard developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
In For Real, the live-action segment following each animated episode, Harry and Bianca show kids how math can help solve life's wacky problems in the real world.
Beyond the TV episodes, learning continues through dynamic Web games and print activities that help kids explore their world -- and have a blast with math in their homes and neighborhoods! Plus, grown-ups can bring the fun and adventure of CYBERCHASE to classrooms and after-school programs with lesson plans and activity kits.

TIPS FOR STATIONS WORKING WITH SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME
Here are some tips from WNET staffers based on our experience working with the New York Mets for the first time. If your station has other tips to add to this list, please share them with us and we will post them on Connect for the benefit of other stations. Thank you!
Negotiate discounted tickets to the game for anyone who uses the code "CYBERCHASE" and offer those via station and team's Web sites.
Collaborate with the partner's press office to issue a joint press release promoting the team's or school's support of public television and math education.
Check to see what opportunities for promoting your station are available on the day of the event. For example, the New York Mets prohibited the display of banners but allowed playback of WNET promo spots on the big screen during inning breaks.
Explore the opportunities for having a station table at the game and making promotional announcements or showing video before and during the game.
Explore the opportunities for sponsor participation and recognition. Sports organizations look for ways to boost ticket sales. Local sponsors of CYBERCHASE may be willing to underwrite the cost of tickets for school groups or community organizations to attend the game.
