The Point Community Development Corporation (The Point CDC) is located in Hunts Point and has been "dedicated to youth development and the cultural and economic revitalization of the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx." The Point CDC runs after school programs, summer camps, an Internet center, a visual arts center, theater, music, and dance studios, circus classes, and community action programs. Hunts Point is a peninsula that extends west from Long Island into a bend of the East River. The neighborhood fell into disrepair during the "Bronx is burning" days of the 1970s and came to be known for vacant buildings and prostitution. Organizations like The Point CDC and schools such as The Bronx Charter School for the Arts have been working to revive the community. The neighborhood is also recognized for its cooperative market that serves as a major food distribution center in New York City. Hunts Point is also the new location for the famous Fulton Fish Market. The Fulton Fish Market at Hunts Point opened in a brand new 400,000-square-foot indoor, climate-controlled facility in November 2005.
