Update: 2008 Tony Award Winners
June 16th, 2008 at 9:20 am

On Sunday, June 15th, the American Theater Wing handed out the 2008 Tony Awards. Below, Thirteen takes a closer look at some of the winners.

Broadway producers hope the attention some of the productions will draw based on their awards will boost attendance in what has been a particularly weak year for ticket sales on the Great White Way. According to a report by Crain’s earlier this month, 18 of the 37 shows currently on Broadway play to houses that sell 70% or fewer seats for each performance.

Among the top nominees, “In the Heights,” the hip-hop and latin-infused musical about immigrant communities in Washington Heights, collected 13 nods, the most of any production, but came away with four, including Best Musical.
