With Earth Day upon us, we took a look back through the archives and found this episode of Bill Moyers Journal from 1973 that looked at the resistance to population growth in Oregon. The 1971 adoption of the nation’s first bottle bill in Oregon was one of the first major recycling causes taken up in legislation. Between 1971 and today, 10 other states have taken up their own bottle bills–but at the time of this report, Bill Moyers notes that it was only just beginning to show success. Watch the full episode.
