UN Concern Over Iran’s Nuclear Program
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

In the latest report on Iran from the United Nations, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that Tehran had 3,500 centrifuges operating at its Natanz facility.

Back in 2007, when Iran reached their target of 3,000 working centrifuges, NewHour reported on the country’s nuclear program:

“We have now reached 3,000 machines,” Ahmadinejad said at a rally, according to the Agence France-Presse. He also said he “could not care less” about U.N. Security Council resolutions opposing the Iranian nuclear program, and that Iran’s “progress is irreversible.”

At the time, Iran had agreed to answer questions from the International Atomic Energy Agency about past secret nuclear work, according to NewsHour, and some diplomats were hopeful about the results of talks between Iran and the IAEA, but today the UN agency reports that Iran continues to owe the agency “substantial explanations,” according to the International Herald Tribune.

Don’t believe the media’s characterizations of the report. Read the report itself and understand what it really means at IranAffairs.com

Oh, and according to the IAEA’s Feb 2008 report, Iran DID IN FACT answer all outstanding questions specificed in the Nov 2007 “Modalities” report of the IAEA. You should stick to writing about things that you actually know something about.
