College Students Go Green: Ready, Set, Shower
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

College students who are trying to be more “green” are forgoing beer in the bathtub for shower timers, and competing with dormmates to see who can shampoo the fastest, according to a recent article in The New York Times, “How Green Is The College? Time the Showers.” The article describes a new sustainability program that is trying to combat global warming and save resources at Oberlin College in Ohio:

SEED, for Student Experiment in Ecological Design — a microcosm of a growing sustainability movement on campuses nationwide, from small liberal arts colleges like Oberlin and Middlebury, in Vermont, to Lansing Community College in Michigan, to Morehouse in Atlanta, to public universities like the University of New Hampshire.

How Do Other Colleges Measure Up?
NOW on PBS provides a “College Sustainability Report Card” that grades 100 colleges on environmental sustainability. See if your college passes or fails the “green” test.
