Monday, September 8th, 2008

Firefighter Kevin Delano participated in the rescue and clean up effort at ground zero immediately following the attack on the World Trade Center. On July 30th, 2008, he passed away from leukemia. His doctors believe there could be a connection between his illness and his exposure to burning jet fuel at the World Trade Center site.

Kevin Delano was my brother, and on this 9/11 he will be foremost in my mind and heart. I live in Vidalia, Georgia and each year there is a memorial service for 9/11. This year I will speak in honor of Kevin and family members will place a wreath at the 9/11 monument that was erected by the Woman’s Club of Vidalia, GA. Thank you for airing this. God Bless America.

I was shocked to hear after the fact of the funeral that Kevin was my cousin. I was rather upset that I was not in attendance in class A to give one of my own cousins and “brothers a proper send off. God bless and you will always be remembered!! 343

its now sept 28,2008 and i just finished looking at the tape roseann did on pbs. It has benn almost two months since he died. I still can’t come to grips with the fact that he is gone. I only wisht that we had a little more time together, to share things that only brothers can. A big hole in my heart is there now, never to be filled again. I will never forget and never forgive the ones who put the events together that caused his death. They call him a hero but he was my brother, and that means more to me then any other name they can come up with to call him. He died doing the only thing he was born to do, and i know that he would do it all over again if he had to.
So rest in peace now my brother and someday we will meet again in a better place.

I just viewed the interview today. I still can’t believe he is gone. Kevin was our friend we met at Hope Lodge while he and my daughter Valerie were going thru treatment for AML. Valerie is doing Ok but I get really scared each time I hear that we lost another friend to lukiemia. Rose and Harriet take care of yourselves and know I will continue to pray for you and your family. Kevin was a wonderful man and an inspiration to us all.

I was fortunate to work with Kevin at Governors Island Fire Department. He was a big bear of a man with a great sense of humor and a real caring personality. I’m very sorry for the loss.
