This Day in History: Supreme Court Legalizes Abortion, Jan. 22
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009
On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that access to abortion services is a fundamental right. By establishing that women can terminate a pregnancy during its first two trimesters, the Supreme Court reversed a century of anti-abortion legislation in the US. Now, with states across the U.S. passing regulations limiting access to abortion, does Roe v. Wade still matter?
Go beyond Roe v. Wade and take a closer look at the issues behind and implications of six major Supreme Court decisions on abortion, in Frontline’s 60-minute documentary “The Last Abortion Clinic”. Watch the full program online here. (Originally aired: 11/9/2005).
