I am the oldest son of Raymond I. & Jean Carson and lived at 42nd Street next door to Mr.& Mrs. Holowchak , she used to take my sister Carol and I, to church for she felt it was horrible that a child was not learning about Jesus Christ. Us kids used to play upon the flat roof and Mrs. Holowchak would make us a honey and bread piece of bread. We moved to Louisiana in 1953. Mt father drove a bus for Green Bus line. While in the Army at Fort Monmouth,New Jersey I went to see her. She remembered me and had me in and true to form she fixed honey and bread and we visited. My folks saw her in 1967, January. As I remember Holly was in the Air Force or Navy and was stationed in Washington, DC.. I remember the Kosher pickles in a barrel for a nickle. I now live in The Dalles, Oregon.

I can't believe that I found this wonderful site, I have wondered all through my life what ever happened to Rockaway. I still dream about the glorious summers spent there. This was the best time of my life.

I missed it again! Darn. We spent our summers on Beach 24th street, in those wonderful pristine bungalows right off the beach. It was paradise! There was nothing more beautiful than the white sand and the clean ocean. We rode our bikes all over the area, this was between the early 40's and 60's. In the evening we went to the boardwalk to play Skee Ball and have Tuki cups, knishes and whatever. What a great life!!!!

I too grew up coming to Rockaway. My Uncle owned Howley's Hotel next to Playland on 97th Street. I would love to see the program. When will it be on again?

I watched this documentary with warm feelings of the area in the 1930's,40's, 50's. I am 81 yrs. old and spent much time at the Rockaways. In the early days with my family members (there were 12 of us). Then I met my future wife in the 40's at the Rockaway Beach. We were married in 1951 and became part of the new suburbs of L.I. But still always remembered the fun of that beach. My wife passed away in 1998, I am an avid bicyclist and still to go back to ride on the boardwalk after all these years. It still is a precious part of my past. This documentary was a delight, I hope the remaining bungalow people will be victorious!
