How does Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf defend his desire to democratize his nation while functioning as its dictator? As Musharraf faces impeachment charges, Pakistani filmmaker Sabiha Sumar shares a rare insider’s view of a troubled leader in a troubled country in her documentary “Dinner With the President.” This week, NOW’s David Brancaccio talks with Sumar about her film, about America’s cultural and political relationship with Pakistan, and about Musharraf’s desire to democratize his nation while functioning as its dictator.
