I’ve never been a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, but he was pretty amazing at the Super Bowl.
THUNDER ROAD, hands down
Tenth Avenue Freezeout – Mets’ pitcher Al Leiter used to listen to the song warming up on the mound at Shea – got the place rockin’
The acoustic version of “Thunder Road” on the Live Album.
BRUUUUUUCE. Fabulous Super Bowl 1/2 time. Amazing at the HBO Sunday before the Inauguration. Love Bruce. Love “The River”
Difficult to pick one.
I’ll go with Rosalita
thunder road
I love “Girls in their Summer Clothes” on his Magic CD – the one before his latest CD. It really evokes being on the boardwalk – down the shore, as we say. Great Super Bowl too.
Growing Up
Backstreets
Being NJ born and bred, I get chills whenever I hear “My Home Town” as it brings back similar memories. And, of course, “Jersey Girl”.
Jersey Girl
All time: Thunder Road, acoustic
Latest:
Kingdom of Days, from Working on a Dream
When you’re crazy about any musician/performer, it’s hard to choose THE one, but… for me, it’s always been NYC Serenade.
I have never been a big Bruce Springsteen fan. I always laugh when it is suggested that the national anthem should be replaced with Born In The U.S.A. I always reply (jokingly) that the only way the National Anthem should be replaced with a Bruce Springsteen song is if it is replaced with my favorite song, Cadillac Ranch. I love that song!!!
This Jersey Girl’s top Bruccce song is “Born to Run” – hearing it live, and the way the sudience gets so cought up that it rocks the joint, is one of the most magical moments you can experience.
“Rosalita” is great, but “Thunder Road,” “Jungleland” and “I’m a Rocker” are all great too. What about some of the lesser-known stuff like “It’s Hard to Be a Saint…” or “Held up Without A Gun”?
GLORY DAYS really gets you pumped and brings back alot of memories
The River – great, sad song
So many great ones, but I have to go with Rosalita.
“Iceman” from TRACKS, and of course, “Jungleland.” Among the new ones: “Devil’s Arcade.”
It’s time that jokes about NJ end: too much cool stuff–including Bruce, “The Sopranos,” Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep all come from NJ. We’re not just about the Jersey Turnpike.
Picking a favorite Bruce song is like picking your favorite child. I love ‘em all. But, “Born To Run” is the anthem of my generation.
lost in the flood
Best Bruce Song, Lost in the Flood!
I like the Rising. I liked it when Asbury Park was starting to turn around, and later after 9/11 when we had to start moving forward again, and now, when we have to rebuild our economy.
just one….old bruce…Growning Up and then the timming of The Rising , we here on the jersy shore needed it.
there are so many that deserve a place in the annals of rock-n-roll – Glory Days, Born to Run, Tunnel of Love, The River to name a few – but my personnel favorite would have be Nebraska.
My wife and I love ” Out on the street” awesome tohear in concert!
I would love to hear him do Point Blank–one of my favorite slow, sad, story songs.
I would love to hear him do Point Blank–one of my favorite songs from The River
BORN TO RUN–LIVE–THERE’S NOTHING LIKE IT!!
Wow, so tough to narrow it down to less than fifteen or so, but Land of Hope and Dreams may be the one that best sums up the Boss paradigm.
My favorite Springsteen song is Brilliant Disguise
Born in the USA, Glory Days and Born to Run
I love “Jersey Girl” for the memories it brings back and “Philadelphia” for the message it sends!
How about one of the often overlooked gems of BITUSA: Downbound Train!
One song? This is” THE BOSS” we are discussing, maybe a favorite album!
Badlands. If i can pick a song pertinent to this dy in m life. Independence Date:)!!!
Anyone who has seen Springsteen in concert knows that “Thunder Road” is the all time show-stopper
JJ
Thunder Road. Live or in the car, sends me on the right path!
Good for you Steph. If anyone has any questions about New Jersey, come to Long Beach Island… the gold coast of the North East. Jersey John from LBI

Youngstown
Murder Incorporated or Atlantic City or …..
Tunnel of Love – Rosalita (yes I know but it’s a great song!), Born to Run, The River and Glory Days there is NO WAY to choose just one.
Also, Dizzy Gillespie was from Red Bank – one of my fav NJ towns. I agree – no more Jersy jokes. And BTW, I didn’t grow up here, but I’m a confirmed New Jerseyan now.
“The Price You Pay” is a majestic anthem of living with the consequences of the choices we make; great work from Max and Roy. “I Wish I Were Blind” and the “Tracks” version of “Stolen Car” are heartbreaking. “This Hard Land” and “The Promised Land” are both songs for the car and the soul.
I really love 10th Avenue Freezeout, but it’s just one of so many great Bruce songs.
Not necessarily my favorite musician, even though I too am from NJ. However, I do like “Born to Run” and “Darkness at the Edge of Town,” among others. But I am truly SICK of hearing “Born in the USA,” if only because pro sports events and uber-patriots (ironically enough, since none of these yusses quite get “The Ghost of Tom Joad” or Pete Seeger, for that matter.) play it to death.
I know Thirteen is trying to reach a younger audience, but his singing sounds to me lke he has a lower intestinal track ailment and is in pain.
hungry heart!!! always reminds my husband & myself of when we first were together,,,,can’t leave out born to run ….and born in the usa should be the new national anthem for all of us baby boomers!!!!
Waiting on a Sunny Day
If I Should Fall Behind, Into the Fire, The Rising, Tunnel of Love, Dancin’ in the Dark, Human Touch too many to mention. Springsteen is a terrific lyricist loading his songs with lots of spirituality and honest, hard-hitting reality about the human condition. He writes catchy tunes, haunting melodies and is adept in both the rock and folk traditions. I’m glad PBS is honoring his talent.
