I’ve never been a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, but he was pretty amazing at the Super Bowl.

ShariUWS -- February 14th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

THUNDER ROAD, hands down

Jeremy -- February 14th, 2009 at 7:13 pm

Tenth Avenue Freezeout - Mets’ pitcher Al Leiter used to listen to the song warming up on the mound at Shea - got the place rockin’

r.finn -- February 16th, 2009 at 11:43 am

The acoustic version of “Thunder Road” on the Live Album.

Carol Wilson -- February 16th, 2009 at 11:47 am

BRUUUUUUCE. Fabulous Super Bowl 1/2 time. Amazing at the HBO Sunday before the Inauguration. Love Bruce. Love “The River”

Joe McGill -- February 16th, 2009 at 11:54 am

Difficult to pick one.
I’ll go with Rosalita

gerry -- February 16th, 2009 at 11:54 am

thunder road

Robin -- February 16th, 2009 at 11:55 am

I love “Girls in their Summer Clothes” on his Magic CD - the one before his latest CD. It really evokes being on the boardwalk - down the shore, as we say. Great Super Bowl too.

Being NJ born and bred, I get chills whenever I hear “My Home Town” as it brings back similar memories. And, of course, “Jersey Girl”.

Carol -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Jersey Girl

Patty Jean -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

All time: Thunder Road, acoustic
Latest:
Kingdom of Days, from Working on a Dream

Lisa -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

When you’re crazy about any musician/performer, it’s hard to choose THE one, but… for me, it’s always been NYC Serenade.

Nancy L. Bellers -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I have never been a big Bruce Springsteen fan. I always laugh when it is suggested that the national anthem should be replaced with Born In The U.S.A. I always reply (jokingly) that the only way the National Anthem should be replaced with a Bruce Springsteen song is if it is replaced with my favorite song, Cadillac Ranch. I love that song!!!

Sharon -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:22 pm

This Jersey Girl’s top Bruccce song is “Born to Run” - hearing it live, and the way the sudience gets so cought up that it rocks the joint, is one of the most magical moments you can experience.

DG -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

“Rosalita” is great, but “Thunder Road,” “Jungleland” and “I’m a Rocker” are all great too. What about some of the lesser-known stuff like “It’s Hard to Be a Saint…” or “Held up Without A Gun”?

Nora -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

GLORY DAYS really gets you pumped and brings back alot of memories

Paul -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

The River - great, sad song

Roger -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

So many great ones, but I have to go with Rosalita.

stephanie Acquadro -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:43 pm

“Iceman” from TRACKS, and of course, “Jungleland.” Among the new ones: “Devil’s Arcade.”
It’s time that jokes about NJ end: too much cool stuff–including Bruce, “The Sopranos,” Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep all come from NJ. We’re not just about the Jersey Turnpike.

Stevie B. -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:43 pm

Picking a favorite Bruce song is like picking your favorite child. I love ‘em all. But, “Born To Run” is the anthem of my generation.

jim -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:53 pm

lost in the flood

P Huson -- February 16th, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Best Bruce Song, Lost in the Flood!

Mrs. Sippy Moon -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:20 pm

I like the Rising. I liked it when Asbury Park was starting to turn around, and later after 9/11 when we had to start moving forward again, and now, when we have to rebuild our economy.

Mary C Eagan -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

just one….old bruce…Growning Up and then the timming of The Rising , we here on the jersy shore needed it.

Clayton -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:26 pm

there are so many that deserve a place in the annals of rock-n-roll - Glory Days, Born to Run, Tunnel of Love, The River to name a few - but my personnel favorite would have be Nebraska.

john -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:26 pm

My wife and I love ” Out on the street” awesome tohear in concert!

laura -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:33 pm

I would love to hear him do Point Blank–one of my favorite slow, sad, story songs.

laura -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

I would love to hear him do Point Blank–one of my favorite songs from The River

Mary Liz -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

BORN TO RUN–LIVE–THERE’S NOTHING LIKE IT!!

Jonathan Sanborn -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:40 pm

Wow, so tough to narrow it down to less than fifteen or so, but Land of Hope and Dreams may be the one that best sums up the Boss paradigm.

Norma -- February 16th, 2009 at 1:58 pm

My favorite Springsteen song is Brilliant Disguise

Liz U -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Born in the USA, Glory Days and Born to Run

Rob from Nutley -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:07 pm

I love “Jersey Girl” for the memories it brings back and “Philadelphia” for the message it sends!

Harry Kousourou -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:09 pm

How about one of the often overlooked gems of BITUSA: Downbound Train!

John Barry -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:12 pm

One song? This is” THE BOSS” we are discussing, maybe a favorite album!
Badlands. If i can pick a song pertinent to this dy in m life. Independence Date:)!!!

Jersey John -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Anyone who has seen Springsteen in concert knows that “Thunder Road” is the all time show-stopper
JJ

Steve Del Bene -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Thunder Road. Live or in the car, sends me on the right path!

Jersey John -- February 16th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

Good for you Steph. If anyone has any questions about New Jersey, come to Long Beach Island… the gold coast of the North East. Jersey John from LBI

Murder Incorporated or Atlantic City or …..

Barbara -- February 16th, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Tunnel of Love - Rosalita (yes I know but it’s a great song!), Born to Run, The River and Glory Days there is NO WAY to choose just one.

Also, Dizzy Gillespie was from Red Bank - one of my fav NJ towns. I agree - no more Jersy jokes. And BTW, I didn’t grow up here, but I’m a confirmed New Jerseyan now.

Peter -- February 16th, 2009 at 3:45 pm

“The Price You Pay” is a majestic anthem of living with the consequences of the choices we make; great work from Max and Roy. “I Wish I Were Blind” and the “Tracks” version of “Stolen Car” are heartbreaking. “This Hard Land” and “The Promised Land” are both songs for the car and the soul.

Estelle -- February 16th, 2009 at 3:59 pm

I really love 10th Avenue Freezeout, but it’s just one of so many great Bruce songs.

Jay Kenny -- February 16th, 2009 at 4:24 pm

Not necessarily my favorite musician, even though I too am from NJ. However, I do like “Born to Run” and “Darkness at the Edge of Town,” among others. But I am truly SICK of hearing “Born in the USA,” if only because pro sports events and uber-patriots (ironically enough, since none of these yusses quite get “The Ghost of Tom Joad” or Pete Seeger, for that matter.) play it to death.

Frank Lotz -- February 16th, 2009 at 5:00 pm

I know Thirteen is trying to reach a younger audience, but his singing sounds to me lke he has a lower intestinal track ailment and is in pain.

barbara -- February 16th, 2009 at 5:34 pm

hungry heart!!! always reminds my husband & myself of when we first were together,,,,can’t leave out born to run ….and born in the usa should be the new national anthem for all of us baby boomers!!!!

Rev. James DiLuzio -- February 16th, 2009 at 6:42 pm

If I Should Fall Behind, Into the Fire, The Rising, Tunnel of Love, Dancin’ in the Dark, Human Touch too many to mention. Springsteen is a terrific lyricist loading his songs with lots of spirituality and honest, hard-hitting reality about the human condition. He writes catchy tunes, haunting melodies and is adept in both the rock and folk traditions. I’m glad PBS is honoring his talent.

Shannodoah rose -- February 16th, 2009 at 6:43 pm

many great songs but love factory worker

gene -- February 16th, 2009 at 6:55 pm

too many to pick one favorite but always loved “For You” early Bruce by far the best stuff and if you don’t know about it go back and listen when he wrote and sang from the heart before he became a commercial success, Wild Innocent E St Shuffle, Greetings From Asbury Park…just absolute classic musical poetry…still love him but could do with more music from the heart and less of his political views

Jeffrey -- February 16th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

My favorite Springsteen song is…4th of July Song (Sandy)

Barbara -- February 16th, 2009 at 9:06 pm

It’s really a toss-up, but I’ll narrow it down in this order: #1 - The River #2 Thunder Road #3 Jersey Girl. I just never get tired of hearing them.

Lyn -- February 16th, 2009 at 11:28 pm

“Spirit in the Night” is my all-time favorite Bruce song. I’ve seen him perform it only twice… among the 11 or so times I’ve seen him live. “Meeting across the River” runs a close second; the arrangement is haunting. The River album is all good, and The Rising album holds a VERY special place in my heart. I can’t listen to any of it without tears and painful memories, but it’s so cathartic! We took our 6-yr old son to his first Bruce concert in July ‘08; his second will be in May ‘09…

Patty -- February 17th, 2009 at 5:05 am

FOR YOU, JUNGLELAND, DRIVE ALL NIGHT, NEW YORK SERENADE, etc. etc. etc.

Cyndy -- February 17th, 2009 at 8:00 am

“Prove It All Night” is probably my all-time fave but then I love all of “Darkness.” I get chills when I hear “Because the Night” and “Spirit in the Night” is such a fun, wild ramble.

eileen -- February 17th, 2009 at 8:20 am

meetimg across the river, when eddie vedder sang with him 2 years ago

Joe R -- February 17th, 2009 at 8:36 am

Hard to pick between 4th of July Asbury Park and Rosalita. They both remind me of the beginning here

Dean -- February 17th, 2009 at 10:26 am

Land of Hope and Dreams - “and all this darkness pass” - perfect for these times!

Mike -- February 17th, 2009 at 10:27 am

Badlands live is an experience everyone should have at least once.
Lost in The Flood (Hammersmith version)
Prove it All Night (with the long guitar intro - Pasaic NJ concert 1978)
Incident on 57th Street - the best version from The Main Point - Feb. 1975

Jo Ann -- February 17th, 2009 at 10:56 am

Thunder Road… Spirit in the Night… Badlands… Glory Days… oh forget it.. Every Bruce Song!

Long Island Beth -- February 17th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Dottie LaMantia -- February 17th, 2009 at 4:47 pm

“The Rising,” “Glory Days,” “Spirit in the Night,” “Born to Run..” the list can go on and on..

Bob Lomicky -- February 17th, 2009 at 6:03 pm

Kitty’s Back, Girls in their Summer Clothes, Thunder Road and Rosalita are all so great that it’s a four-way tie. Oh, the joy of youth and its promise.

Cathy -- February 17th, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Glory Days, Badlands.

Beth Kane -- February 17th, 2009 at 9:43 pm

I love Born to Run.
All his songs are great.

Lori -- February 18th, 2009 at 12:04 am

My favorite is Tunnel of Love. I just love Bruce’s vocals on this one!

Drew -- February 18th, 2009 at 12:14 am

Thunder Road!

Janice -- February 18th, 2009 at 7:35 am

Jungleland

bonnie carey -- February 18th, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Backstreets and anything else Bruce sings. I rotate CD’s in the car so it depends on what I am listening to. Who else could come up with the lyrics (my favorite)”I want to die with you Wendy on the street tonight in an everlasting kiss”

lifesabeach714 -- February 18th, 2009 at 5:35 pm

prove it all night,

Osunfemi -- February 18th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

There are so many favorites but right this moment, I am addicted to “Girls in their Summer Clothes”…let’s put it this way–there isn’t a single Bruce song I don’t love…

judy cassidy -- February 18th, 2009 at 9:59 pm

jungleland
Thunder Road
Candys Room

Cameron Anderson -- February 19th, 2009 at 6:15 am

I am a “Jersey Girl” girl.

Catherine -- February 19th, 2009 at 7:25 am

I don’t like Bruce Springsteen’s music. I think he is grossly overated. I’m sick of looking at unkempt performers making millions. Lot’s think they should say YES I LIKE ________ because it’s cool to belong.

Thomas Honeck -- February 19th, 2009 at 7:07 pm

Badlands

Barbara -- February 19th, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Catherine (#78) if you don’t like his music why are you here? Turn up your Frank Sinatra and move on. There are only two types of people…those that have been to a Springsteen concert and those who haven’t. Not my quote, but it sums it up. I love so many of his songs. but if I had to choose two, “Thunder Road” and “Happy.” Happy is probably one of the most piognant love songs every written. Just beautiful.

Michele -- February 19th, 2009 at 8:49 pm

Candy’s Room
Thunder Road
Prove it All Night (the song that hooked me)…despite Evil Ticketmaster, I managed to get a seat for the Jersey show…BRUUUUUCCCCCEEEEEE
