Winner: “Say Can You See”
An improbable witness experiences New York City from atop the Empire State Building during a time of extraordinary change. Day to night, light to dark, the pathos of the American spirit is explored through historic events. Directed by Tony Caio.
“Say Can You See” will be broadcast Saturday, May 24th on Reel 13 between the featured classic and featured indie films.
Congratulations also to our runners-up.
First Runner-up: “The Stork”
This work is the centerpiece of Nina Paley’s animated Fertility Cycle series about overpopulation and the environment, in which a serene natural landscape is bombed by bundles of joy. Directed by Nina Paley.
Second Runner-up: “Puppet”
A young man fabricates a simple sock puppet, not knowing the abuse the entity will soon inflict. Through an escalating series of torture, the possessed puppet takes on the embodiment of fear, chaos and willful self-destruction. Directed by Patrick Smith.
