Sydney Pollack, Film Director (1934 – 2008)

Prolific Hollywood director, producer, and actor Sydney Pollack died Monday at his home in Los Angeles from cancer. He was 73. Thirteen looks back in memoriam….

Mr. Pollack was best known for his films “Tootsie” and “Out of Africa,” which earned him the Academy Award for Best Director in 1985. Recently, Mr. Pollack collaborated with singer-songwriter James Taylor and Thirteen to produce JAMES TAYLOR: ONE MAN BAND (watch video). In 2006, the director made his first documentary, AMERICAN MASTERS: SKETCHES OF FRANK GEHRY for PBS. Read an interview with Pollack about the film.
